KÓSMESIS
The ephemeral skin.
KÓSMESIS
Ancient Lucentum, contains many Roman sites. In its excavations have been found ugüentarios that stored inside, about 2000 years ago, ointments, oils, perfumes ... substances for the beauty and skin care of the ancient Romans. Ephemeral materials, which fade on the skin and evaporate over time. In the MARQ (Archaeological Museum of Alicante) we find some of these ungüentarios without a trace of the oils and perfumes they kept inside. Can we materialize the ephemeral and connect from the sensory with our ancestors?
Kósmesis is a proposal of material exploration inspired by archeology to speculate on the idea of ephemerality and beauty. To capture smells, textures, materialities that fade or evaporate, that disappear, to give them physicality. A series of “sensorial archaeologies” are proposed, created through experimentation with biomaterials, natural materials from the area. Surfaces that invite us to touch, to feel, to smell, to connect with the past from the present. Textures that are processes, superimposed times that transform and fade giving physicality to the changing nature.
