Raquel Buj, experimental fashion designer

BUJ Studio is an experimental fashion design studio founded and led by Raquel Buj, artist, architect and experimental fashion designer. Her approach is located at the frontier between art and design, where fashion becomes a tool for artistic, sensorial and conceptual expression.

Since its beginnings, BUJ Studio operates as a creative laboratory that explores new ways of conceiving experimental artistic design. It fuses artisanal techniques and digital technologies to bring unique pieces to life, with materials brought from diverse fields and biomaterials, and a perspective always oriented toward innovation.

Innovation in Experimental Fashion Design

Raquel Buj is an artist, architect, and designer, recognized for her focus on experimental fashion and artistic design. Her work explores the space between art and fashion, conceived as systems of skins that envelop the body and create intimate connections with both the wearer and their environment. For Raquel, clothing is more than just apparel: it is an extension of the body, a “second skin” that protects, transforms, and interacts with architecture, landscapes, and those who engage with it.

At BUJ Studio, the studio she founded and directs, these ideas take shape through the exploration of materials and biomaterials, artisanal techniques, and digital processes such as 3D printing and laser cutting, as well as the reuse of recycled fabrics. Each piece designed in the studio aims to generate new, sensitive, and sustainable materialities, creating conceptual experiences that combine creativity, innovation, and artistic reflection.

An Experimental Fashion Designer Committed to Collaboration and Education

Raquel Buj continuously fosters dialogue between disciplines. She has collaborated with visual artists, dancers, musicians, performers, and art and nature centers to push the boundaries of textile and stage design.

Her commitment to education remains a cornerstone of her career. Raquel Buj teaches at institutions such as IED, IE, and BAU, and offers workshops and lectures at national and international levels. She currently leads the Master in Surface Design and New Materials at IED 2024–2025, training new generations in textile innovation, experimental design, and material exploration.

Creations from BUJ Studio have been exhibited at major international centers and galleries, including the sustainable fashion exhibition “CANU, The Sustainable Fashion Exhibition” in Shanghai (2022), the AECID – Academy of Spain stand at ARCO Rome (2024), and the group exhibition “Peninsulares 2025: Iberian Encounters of Contemporary Textile Art.” She was also part of “The STOP DRAWING, Architecture Beyond Representation”, curated by Pippo Ciorra at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, consolidating her recognition in experimental fashion and artistic design.
