INCUBATIO
INCUBATIO
Circumambulation is a creation of Muriel Romero and Pablo Palacio that explores in a scenic format this ancestral rite oriented to the induction of dream episodes for healing purposes, a practice that is at the base of Western culture and also forms the foundation of modern psychotherapy.
IIn these rituals, the person who was initiated through this practice was not alone, there were people in charge of the place called iatromantis, who accompanied him, masters in the functioning of the process. They accompanied the patient to reach what he needed to know without hindering the experience.
The recumbent character is in the process of transformation, his clothing reminds us of magnetic water. A heavy, golden, liquid matter slides down from his shoulders. Little by little, it runs down his body, penetrating through the broken tissues, until it bathes his skin,
The figure of Iatromantis has a skin made of snake molts, symbol of transformation, science and myth. The snake is a recurring symbol in the dreams and mythologies of all civilizations and eras since ancient times. It encloses a knowledge that is necessary to conquer to reach a psychic fullness, both at the individual level, as well as for us as a species. The snake-like textures appear torn, shiny and bathed in cave minerals.
A flexible spine runs along the character's back, adapting to his movements. It reminds us of the fossilized snake in the form of a spine on our own back, and probably speaks to us every night in our dreams.
Presented at Teatro Museo Universidad de Navarra, Incubatio reconstructs ancestral Western rites that induced trance states for healing. The production integrates motion capture, Al, extended reality, electroacoustic music, and interactive light design to create a multisensory performance.
