EMBODIED MACHINE
EMBODIED MACHINE
Embodied Machine is a project of Instituto Stocos (Pablo Palacio and Muriel Romero). For their piece, Instituto Stocos counted on the collaboration of a technical and artistic interdisciplinary group.
Buj Studio participated with the design and fabrication of a new costume that integrates crafts and technology . A responsive second skin for motion capture technology. For this costume, we worked integrating different materialities and processes, natural and artificial, crafts and technologies.
When I wet to Geneva rehearsals I had the chance to see how the motion capture sensors worked over Muriel´s body defining an skeleton that built an artificial intelligence. These sensors defined a second invisible skin attached to Muriel´s body, a kind of a second dancer that expressed itself though light, music and movement. I wanted that these sensors got integrated in Muriel´s skin not as separated tecnological elements, bt as something organic growing naturally from Muriel´s own skin.
Raquel Buj.
We focused on the sensor geometry to create different molds that we tested on latex and bioplastic material. The process was very crafted but also very technical and precise, sensors were placed on an exact body positions regarding the computer body skeleton .
Thank you very much @muriel_stocos and @institutostocos for making us part of it. The performance was presented 11-12th June at @mercatflors .
