BUJ Studio is an experimental fashion brand directed and founded by Raquel Buj. She is an artist, fashion designer and architect. 

BUJ Studio is specialised in fashion and architecture searching for new horizons between them. Her team work is conceived as a laboratory that explores the intersection of both disciplines from the concept and the materiality. They understands both disciplines as designed skins or envelopes where fashion is the closest to the body. Her studio works with a wide typology of materials rescued from other fields and manipulate them meticulously combining artisan work and digital technologies creating unique artistic pieces that express new materialities for a new a contemporaneity.

She expands and enriches the limits of BUJ studio collaborating with other professionals (dancers, artists and designers) and through her engagement with education. She teaches in several universities and institutes such as University Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), CSDMM or IED (Design European Institute) where she is also program leader at the Master Fashion Futures: Smart Fabrics and Wearables at Fab Lab IED. She gives many workshops and numerous talks such as TEDxMadrid 19 at Retrofuturo, and has also been part of the jury at the Reshape Forum Barcelona 2019.

Her pieces have been exhibited in many places such as the Bienal Americana de Diseño Emergente (Matadero, Madrid 2019), collective exhibition  “Paramétricas” at gallery  2B space to be, Moneo-Brock (Madrid 2019) and Open Studio “Design &Art” Acdo at Madrid Design Fest 2020.

She has received several awards and recognitions in both fields.

Previously, co-founding Zap&Buj together with Elena Zapico,  they were awarded with the Samsung Ego Innovation Project (2017) at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid. In 2018 y 2019 they were selected at Vogue WHO´S ON NEXT receiving the Research and Design mention at the Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño BID 19 (2019). They were again selected to present their next collection at EGO MBFWM. Their last work together called “Imaginé cinco cuerpos y ninguno era el mío” was created in collaboration with the performer Janet Novás. It joined together fashion, dance and scenography and was presented at the art and culture festival at Veranos de la Villa, July 2019.

Raquel Buj has also previous experience in the architecture field co-founding several studios such as Buj+Colón Architects, with Pedro Colón de Carvajal. Their work has being internationally published and awarded with several recognitions and prizes such as the prestigious Detail Preis 2009, Bauwelt price 2009, Baltasar Neumann award or Mies van der Rohe 2009 selection. She has co-developed important projects such as 11 March Memorial in Madrid or the Roman Museum of Galicia and also interior projects such as Pharmacy La puebla 15 or Plywood Trio, all widely published.
